Swad Indian Kitchen won Readers Choice Awards 2017.

Last week North shore news paper announced the 2017 results for readers’ choice awards and Swad won the best Indian restaurant.

Service complements cuisine

“I took an instant liking to swad Indian Kitchen, the newest addition to west Vancouver’s dining scene.” – Chris Dagenais

“I began my new menu explorations at Swad Indian Kitchen, which topped my Year in Review selections in 2015 and seems to have gained a loyal following since, if midweek volume in the restaurant was any indication. I was a huge fan of Swad’s pan-Indian approach that showcased both classic and contemporary creations drawn from regional influences spanning the entire sub-continent, as well as the restaurant’s warm and refined interior design.

Their new menu, as lengthy and ambitious as the original, retains a few of the dishes that I have grown to love here, including the Bengali Curry featuring seasoned fish in mustard and coconut cream and Swad Palak Kofta, spinach and gram flour dumplings with fresh spinach and cream, but otherwise it is a complete overhaul. New to the menu is the stunning Swad E Lamb, a thick and exceptionally rich curry with a generous portion of boneless, moist, fall-apart-tender chunks of lamb in coconut, curry leaf and toasted spice gravy. The dish was pure magic, elegant but hearty, its sauce the perfect consistency to be mopped up by naan.

Also sampled from the new menu was a fantastic preparation of Gobhi Butter Masala. Florets of the vegetable were battered and cooked until slightly crispy on the outside, then topped with a creamy, spicy tomato and onion sauce. I ordered the Kofta again out of habit and was pleased to find it is still an extraordinary vegetarian dish, an explosion of rousing textures and tastes. Mains at Swad are around $18, on average. The restaurant is located on Marine Drive near 17th Street in West Vancouver.”

The Dish: New Menu at Swad Indian Kitchen

Wishing everyone a happy family day from your friends at Swad Indian Kitchen. Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. Today’s blog features Swad’s new dishes & menu.

Following is a piece by Pork_ninjas from 604van featuring new dishes at Swad.

“When this dish was presented to our table, the spices immediately tickled my nose. The sauce is a curry masala, garlic and white wine. For $13, this was a steal. The sauce reminded me of tandoori sauce, it has that smoky but sweet flavor to it and some lingering spices. The flavors were complex and so addictive to eat. All the mussels opened and devoured fast!”

“Their signature dish here is made with spinach and gram flour dumplings, fresh spinach and cream and topped with mozzarella cheese. This was still bubbling over as it was presented to our table. Crispy golden brown dumplings with fresh spinach with some pop of color.”

“Fish cooked in coconut, onion gravy and mustard. The flavor was amazing, hints of coconut throughout the broth and of sweet mustard with mustard seeds. The fish was cooked to perfection, so soft and delicate and the sauce complemented it well. What a pretty color with the sauce.”

Why Eat at Swad Indian Kitchen

In it’s short time running, Swad Indian Kitchen has garnered a lot of positive feedback from those who have gone to visit it, whether for a business lunch or a night out with old friends. Despite its acclaim, it still has to conquer many palates in West Vancouver and the rest of the Lower Mainland. And for a great reason.

Here are some reasons why you should pay a visit to Swad Indian Kitchen:

It’s Healthy

One of the concepts behind the creation of Swad Indian Kitchen was to create a food space that would cater to the need for high-end Indian cuisine in West Vancouver, but also to the health & wellness crowd. Swad does both perfectly.

It’s New & Innovative

The heading says it all – eating at Swad Indian Kitchen is a whole new experience. It’s like something you’ve never had. While there are a couple of staples (who can resist a good butter chicken), most of the plates are twists and spins on traditional Indian cuisine.

It’s still Indian cuisine

Despite the fact that the food at Swad Indian Kitchen is not your typical North Indian, Punjabi meal, it is still very much Indian food. The spices, ingredients are the same, and still give you a taste of India. As a matter of fact, the food served at Swad represents all flavors of India, giving you a unique and truly representative taste of Indian food in West Vancouver.

It’s received accolades

Not only is Swad Indian Kitchen’s food tasty, healthy and unique, but it has already been recognized by others for its high-standards in food and quality. Whether it is readers voting or professional food critics, all can agree that Swad’s place is amongst the top Indian restaurants in West Vancouver.

All in all, it’s worth your money.

“Service with a smile is not a cliché…it’s the fundamental basis of my business…come to India Bistro hungry, leave India Bistro happy.” Mroke said

Welcome to our blog page. Today’s post is about Kamal Mroke, owner of Swad Indian Kitchen and India Bistro Restaurant in Vancouver. We will get to know Kamal, a little better, through this post. If you are curious to learn more about Indian cuisine, and Kamal’s involvement in the Eye Camps charity project in India then keep reading.

Kamal runs India Bistro on Davie Street (11 years) and he recently opened Swad Indian Kitchen in West Vancouver in 2015.

Asian Pacific Post highlighted:

“Mroke arrived in Vancouver from his native Punjab in the early 80’s and plunged himself into the restaurant business as a bus boy and dishwasher while going to school to become a chef. His first business was a cafe in a North Vancouver motel in 1986 after which he operated restaurants in Calgary and Seattle which were frequented by Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Paul Allen. In the Lower Mainland, Mroke had Handi in North Vancouver, Dawat in East Vancouver, Copper Chimney in Downtown Vancouver before opening India Bistro.
“Sometimes people call me the serial restaurateur,” said Mroke, whose wife Navneet, daughter and son all play a role in the family business.
At a corner of India Bistro, there is a green kettle, where patrons can drop off change for his charity effort called Natar Sewa Manch or People’s Eye Charity.
Using  whatever is in the kettle and pumping tens of thousands of their own dollars, Mroke and his pal  Surinder Kainth, a Burnaby mill worker make a trek back to their native Punjab in India every year to conduct eye camps for the poor.
Their efforts have repaired the vision of over 40,000 people over the last decade.
“God has given me a lot, this is just a small way of giving something back,” said Mroke.
“The gratitude shown by these poor people is a very humbling experience…it fills my heart with joy…it makes me happy…it makes it all worthwhile,” said Mroke.
And making people happy, whether it is in India Bistro on Davie Street or in the villages of Punjab, is what Mroke is all about.”
